What is often overlooked part a skincare routine?
This depends on your skin concerns! However, hydration is a very important part of all routines – even if you have more oily skin.
Why shouldn´t The Ordinary Resveratrol & Ferulic Acid be kept in the fridge?
The saturation of Resveratrol and Ferulic is extremely high. Low temperatures will make it crystallize over time.
What are the best products to pair with The Ordinary Retinol & Retinoid?
I would recommend combining retinoids with ingredients that support the skin’s barrier function, such as amino acids or vitamin B5. I would also recommend applying sun protection daily if using retinoids!
Can you explain more about NIOD NAAP?
Our NIOD NAAP uses a bacterial lysate to support the skin’s own exfoliating mechanisms, much like a gentle acid exfoliant. It does so without the inclusion of a direct acid. Regarding the “unclogging” of pores, it is undeniable that a BHA will do this job seamlessly, as it can blend with the lipids trapped inside the pore (thanks to BHA’s lipophilicity). NAAP will be a great replacement for direct acids if you wish to achieve a skin-smoothing effect.
What is the shelf life of unopened NIOD products?
CAIL 1% and our sun protection products will have an expiry date written on the product. For all other items, the shelf life of our products is three years when unopened and stored at room temperature.
Why copper peptide should not be used in the same routine as Retinoids?
We don’t recommend combining copper peptides with retinoids and retinol in the same routine due to the combination’s potential to increase skin sensitivity. We also do not recommend combining copper peptides with strong antioxidants due to the antioxidant’s susceptibility to the copper ions present in the formula.
Niacinamide is the key ingredient in a lot of “skin lightening” products that can reduce melanin. As a person of colour, are there any products that will reduce oiliness and specific blemishes without lightening POC skin overall?
This is a valid concern. I love the buchu derivatives that we have included in our Hylamide Pore Flush mist. It aims to reduce visible sebum without affecting melanin content.
What Deciem products would you recommend for blemishes/hyperpigmentation?
We’d suggest for you to explore both The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA which helps with dark spots and pigmentation and The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% which can help with blemishes and congestion
Would you consider making an azelaic acid that isn’t silicone based?
Please stay tuned.
Why is the AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution not available in Canada? If Canadian health regulations won’t allow it is it really safe to use?
The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling solution is not available for sale in a few jurisdictions, like Canada, because of the rules surrounding the classification of these products as cosmetics. I understand why the limitations were originally established but cosmetic formulation practices have evolved and the way we deliver these actives fairly new. We have gone above and beyond our normal safety testing programs for such a strong direct acid and we have a comprehensive safety package available to support the use of The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling solution. ❤
Is Deciem Cruelty-Free
Deciem says: DECIEM does not test on animals and does not ask others to do so. For this reason, none of our brands or products are sold in brick-and-mortar stores in China. We currently sell to customers in Mainland China through cross-border operations to completely avoid animal testing practices. DECIEM has been certified with the Leaping Bunny stamp of approval, a widely recognized standard for personal care and household products.
When will The Ordinary Salicylic Acid be back?
It’s taking a little longer than usual! We understand that Salicylic acid is a well-loved ingredient and we’re currently working on the reformulation. Our lab is working really hard to make sure it’s available as soon as possible.
Which The Ordinary products would you recommend for oily skin with a little redness on the cheeks, comedones and breakouts?
Along with The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser, you may wish to explore The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%, a high-strength vitamin and mineral formula that visibly targets the look of blemishes and signs of congestion.
Niacinamide has also been shown to have a visible brightening effect. We also recommend trying The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%, which is a multifunctional brightening direct acid formula that visibly targets uneven tone, textural irregularities and the look of blemishes.
We recommend applying Niacinamide first! Generally, we recommend applying water-based solutions first, followed by anhydrous or oil formulations, and finally cream/suspension formulas. ☺
More Deciem FAQS
Best The Ordinary products for over 50 with ageing skin, pigmentation and old acne scars.
A great product to start exploring is The Ordinary “Buffet”, a peptide serum with multiple technologies, including Matrixyl™ and Argireline™, in a base of 11 skin-friendly amino acids multiple hyaluronic acid complexes to visibly target multiple signs of ageing at once.
For your pigmentation concerns, we would recommend The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA, which is a concentrated serum with purified alpha-arbutin; Alpha Arbutin reduces the look of dark spots and hyperpigmentation. As for the cleanser, you may wish to explore The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser, which is a gentle cleansing product formulated to target makeup removal whilst leaving the skin feeling smooth and moisturized.
What kind of Hyaluronic Acid goes into The Ordinary product line. If you can elaborate your perspective on using HA when using Buffet, Marine HA, Alpha arbutin and NMF, is this too much Hyaluronic Acid?
Great question! Our product combines low and high molecular weight HA to provide multi-depth hydration within the skin. Regarding your concern for using low molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid (HA) in our formula, our product is intended to bring to function within the layers of the skin only. There is insufficient data to establish a direct link between topically applied HA and the rise of health concerns.
Is there a conflicts table between The Ordinary & Hylamide
There is currently no contraindication guide between those brands but we are more than happy to assist if you have any questions! (You can see The Ordinary, Hylamide, NIOD conflicts here).

As for hydration, you may wish to explore The Ordinary Marine Hyaluronics which is a lightweight, low viscosity formula containing marine-derived water reservoirs and several health-supporting amino acids to offer multi-depth hydration by attracting and holding water like hyaluronic acid but are lighter in texture and feel. We hope this helps, Louise! ❤

I have oily and acne-prone skin, and 80% sure I also suffer from fungal acne.
Unfortunately, none of our products can be considered medical treatments for fungal acne, so we always suggest consulting with your physician to see what may work best for your skin. It’s important to note that with any active ingredient that affects skin behaviour, there can be an initial purging period during which breakouts are normal. It is also important to note that when introducing new products and sciences into your regimen, your skin may require up to a month to adjust. You may also wish to explore The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% which is a multifunctional brightening direct acid formula that visibly targets uneven tone, textural irregularities and the look of blemishes.
Why has The Ordinary Alpha Lipoic Acid been discontinued?
Good news! The Ordinary Alpha Lipoic Acid 5% is currently being reformulated. And some not so good news… it’s taking longer than expected – we’re really sorry for the delay. In the meantime we have a number of other antioxidants that may be of interest, including EUK 134 0.1%, Pycnogenol 5%, and Resveratrol 3% + Ferulic Acid 3%. Thank you so much for your patience.

Also contains a 1% concentration of GHK-Cu (Copper Tripeptide) which focuses on skin health and has a very long-term value to the skin. How can I reduce pigmentation around my mouth area? It is due to an allergic reaction, not genetically.

Yes, that is correct!
Is it really true that you cannot use The Ordinary Vit C and The Ordinary Niacinamide together or is it just a myth?
We generally recommend avoiding the use of Niacinamide in the same routine as Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) to ensure the integrity of the Vitamin C is not compromised.
How and where in any regimen would you apply adapalene or epiduo?
Unfortunately, it is difficult for us to comment on prescription medications or other brands. You may wish to speak with your doctor/dermatologist, gradually incorporate one new product into your regimen at a time, and apply test patches first to see what works best for your skin.
Are there anything that conflicts with the amino acid + B5? Where in the routine does this fit in?
We would generally recommend applying Amino Acids as your first step after cleansing and toning. Any DECIEM products may be used with the Amino Acids as well. As always, be sure to patch test to see which combinations work best for you!
What products do you recommend instead of retinol as I can’t use it whilst breastfeeding, thank you!

For texture and scarring, you may wish to explore The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% which offers a multifunctional brightening direct acid formula that visibly targets uneven tone, textural irregularities and the look of blemishes. The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA is also a great serum to incorporate for hyperpigmentation. For hydration, we always love to recommend The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5! Your routine using these would be as follows:
AM – Alpha Arbutin > Hyaluronic > Moisturizer > SPF. PM – Alpha Arbutin > Hyaluronic > Moisturizer > Azelaic.

Why can we not use Niod copper peptides or The Ordinary Copper Peptides in the same routine as Tretinoin.
We do not recommend combining Copper Peptides with retinoids/retinol in the same routine due to the potential of the combination to increase skin sensitivity. We also do not recommend combining with strong antioxidants due to the susceptibility of the antioxidant reacting with the copper ions that are present.
