Is this product fake? This is one of the most common questions asked in the Facebook Group and on Instagram.
The Ordinary is so cheap, so why would anyone create counterfeit products and why would anyone buy them? Sadly, there are quite a lot of fake/counterfeit The Ordinary products around. Some are really good, and some are so bad you can´t believe people even question if they are fake.
To avoid counterfeit products, always purchase directly from The Ordinary, NIOD or one of the many authorised stockists. The Ordinary ships worldwide with free delivery on orders over 25€$ 30$AUD to most countries. Some countries have a minimum spend of 250$ for free delivery.

How do you avoid buying Ordinary Counterfeit Products?
Quite simply, only buy from The Ordinary or authorised stockists of The Ordinary.
- The Ordinary & NIOD ship to practically every country, and delivery is free to most countries on orders of 25€$ 30$AUD.
- For some countries, the minimum spend is $250$ with free shipping. You can either share the cost with a friend or pay the shipping fee. This way, you know you are receiving authentic products. Occasionally, The Ordinary offers free delivery worldwide, so keep an eye out for offers and sign up for our newsletter.
- There are over 100 authorised online retailers around the world.
- If a product is out of stock, sign up for notifications on The Ordinary or NIOD websites or ask people for a dupe from other brands.
- If you’re desperate for a product, please DO NOT buy from Amazon, eBay or Shopee. Members of the Facebook Group purchased from these sites and were highly concerned about the product’s authenticity.

Every day, we receive questions from the Facebook group asking if their product is fake. Here are just 2 examples of some of the counterfeit products. These are easy to spot for someone who knows The Ordinary, but some counterfeit products are so good that it´s pretty hard to tell.
The Ordinary Bottle Sizes
- The Ordinary does not sell samples. I have seen people selling The Ordinary samples in little 5ml bottles. These are NOT authentic products.
- The Ordinary serums are mainly sold in 30ml bottles. Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide, and Multi-Peptide Serum are available in 30ml and 60ml bottles. Some 120ml Only The Ordinary Pycnogenol comes in a small 15ml bottle.
- If you see The Ordinary packaged in any way different from what you see on the Deciem website, it’s more than likely fake.

The Ordinary Boxes
The original boxes are made of good-quality cardboard. Apart from the corners/seams, the box is pretty hard to tear. It feels smooth and has an almost velvety texture.

You’re probably thinking, why are they banging the box against a table? Well because it shows you how rigid the original Ordinary boxes are. This one has been squeezed, so you can see how it creases. The sound may help you understand how strong the card is. Some of the fake boxes are really thin and rip easily.
The Ordinary Products – texture and smell
The Ordinary often updates its formulas; even authentic products can sometimes differ. Another way to check if your Ordinary product is genuine is by its colour, texture, and smell.
If you are unsure whether a product is authentic, my advice is not to use it. You do not know what´s inside, where, or how long it has been sitting around.

Both of these Marine Hyaluronics were purchased directly from Deciem. You will notice numerous differences. One says 1 fl oz US, the other says 1 fl oz, and the instructions on the sides are different, too. If you have purchased products directly from The Ordinary or one of the many authorised stockists, do not worry if the boxes differ slightly.
