Hello! So, you’ve just joined Deciem Chat Room and may be wondering what it is and who is behind it?
About me
My name is Jo, and I became a #deciemaddict back in 2017. I was a latecomer to skincare (in my 40s) and I realised that I needed to start taking care of my skin. But the truth is, I had given up. My skin was so sensitive and I had so many reactions to everything I used, I was too scared to try anything new. It was a nightmare. I didn’t know what to try anymore.
Then in 2017, I heard about this brand called The Ordinary. I jumped online and ordered the signs of ageing and pigmentation regimens straight away. A box of goodies arrived, and I spent more time pampering myself than ever. The products felt great on my skin, but most importantly, there were no allergic reactions! After years of problems (both skin and health), it became clear that perfume in skincare products was one of the main problems for me.
I am so thankful to The Ordinary for bringing out fragrance-free products, allowing everyone to use ingredients that are not always available for every pocket, and making us all so much more knowledgeable about skincare.

How Deciem Chat Room Came About
I absolutely loved how my skin looked and felt, and I quickly became obsessed. As I ordered more products, questions arose: Was I layering them correctly? Why were bits of the products pilling? Can I use these products together? Am I doing it right?
Back in 2017, The Ordinary website was nothing like it is today. It was difficult to navigate and did not provide much helpful information, even though it was a very “cool” website. You had to wait a week or more to get any help by email. There was only Deciem and one other company selling The Ordinary back then.
With all these problems, I thought I could not be the only one! I searched for Deciem, The Ordinary and NIOD skincare groups on social media, but there were none. So, I decided to set up a little Facebook Group, and the rest is history. Today, we’re a community of over 200,000 #deciemaddicts!
It’s an amazing community with so many incredible members always helping one another.
What is Deciem Chat Room?
Deciem Chat Room is an independently run platform for #deciemaddicts around the world. We have a Facebook group, a Facebook page, an email newsletter, as well as this website.
The Facebook group is a place where we can talk freely about The Ordinary & NIOD products, both the good and the bad. I’m passionate about real reviews by real people who have bought, tried and tested Deciem’s products. So I hope you come and join us in the Facebook Group!
Deciem loves & supports the group
I set up the group in early 2017. In September 2017, I was invited to London to meet Nicola Kilner (now CEO of Deciem). It was an absolute dream come true to meet the people behind Deciem.
That month, we also had the one and only live Facebook Group Q&A with the late Brandon Truaxe, the Founder of Deciem. You can find the original post in the Facebook Group. To view it, all you have to do is join the group. It’s an amazing post, well worth reading, so I recommend you check it out.
Since that time, Deciem has consistently been the most incredible company to deal with. They are always supportive and give the group members exclusive discounts and giveaways.
In November 2023, some members and I were invited to the first in-person event in Toronto to launch the newly formulated Hyaluronic Acid.
Is the group independent?
Yes, the group operates independently. It is a community-driven space where our members can openly discuss the positives and the negatives of Deciem’s products, ensuring authentic and balanced reviews.
However, it’s important to note that Deciem has consistently shown remarkable support for our community. For example, over the years, there have been exclusive events and giveaways. Like the Q&A sessions with Brandon Truaxe, the late founder of Deciem, as mentioned above. Or the time when Deciem generously offered our members an exclusive 20% discount on all products for about 10 days, in celebration of our milestone of reaching 200,000 #deciemaddicts. This shows Deciem’s ongoing commitment to our group, whilst allowing us to maintain our independent stance.
Affiliate
All the reviews in the group, on Instagram and on this website are by our group members, the #deciemaddicts. They are people like you and me who have bought, tried and tested Deciem products in real life and are here to share our opinions.
Impartial, honest reviews have always been really important to me and even more so now with social media and so many Instagrammers and influencers. To remain independent, affiliate links are used, as they are by most bloggers. Sometimes stockists will pay to advertise.

Mention by Brandon Truaxe, the Founder of Deciem
This was probably the most amazing mention ever, by the late Brandon Truaxe, the Founder of Deciem. Read post on Facebook.
Vox
The group was mentioned in an article titled “Deciem fueled the skin care boom”. Then it almost went bust” by Cheryl Wischhover. Read full article here
“One of the most influential spaces for Deciem has been the Facebook group The Ordinary & Deciem Chat Room, which popped up entirely independent of the company. Not to sound like a broken record, but this, too, is not a thing that happens in beauty. Sure, there are tons of general beauty forums; however, there are not many brand-specific ones, and certainly not at such a scale. The group now boasts over 129,000 followers and has inspired several copycats.”
Get The Gloss
There was a mention of the group in a Get The Gloss article titled “What Deciem’s Co-CEO Nicola Kilner spends her beauty budget on”. Read full article here.
“On Facebook, there is actually a fan club now for The Ordinary, which has over 20k members; they are always sharing amazing results and stories, so quite often when I am reading the comments, it reminds to me revisit one of our products I might not have used for a while!”

The group was mentioned in an article titled “Deciem’s Nicola Kilner on Continuing to Build a Successful Brand After Tragedy”. Read full article here.
“The nice thing about The Ordinary is that it feels like a community has formed. Our Facebook fan group [it’s independent from the brand] has over 100,000 members, and it’s amazing to see people helping others with their regimens.”
The Cut
The Cut mentioned the group in an article titled “Deciem’s Nicola Kilner on Continuing to Build a Successful Brand After Tragedy”. Read full article here.
“The brand even has a Facebook group of 18,000 people discussing how to use its products. Truaxe once did a Q&A for the group, and it took him over 28 hours to answer every question.”
Women’s Wear Daily (WWD)
An article called “Deciem’s Nicola Kilner Talks Low Prices, Differentiation” came out in WWD magazine. Read full article here.
“Deciem relies on its consumers — not influencers — to propel conversation around the brand on social media. Kilner noted that one fan group, The Ordinary Chat Room, on Facebook has 28,000 members. She herself is a member — albeit a silent one.”
Women’s Wear Daily (WWD)
WWD magazine reported on “Estée Lauder, Deciem Headed to Court Hearing”. Read full article here.
“Followers of Deciem — there are 374,000 on Instagram — have seen much of the drama unfold publicly on the Internet. The business, founded in 2013, has built a cult following for its multiple brands of affordably priced, scientifically named products, like The Ordinary Vitamin C Suspension 30% in Silicone, $6.80, and Niod’s Lip Bio-Lipid Concentrate, $60. Deciem even has a fan-run Facebook group — the Ordinary & Deciem Chat Room — with more than 57,000 members. Up until recently, the vertically integrated business’ biggest problem was making enough products to keep up with demand.”
“On Tuesday, that conversation mixed elements of alarm and bargain hunting as fans discussed the news and wondered whether products would remain available. Customers swapped rumours in a private Facebook group with more than 57,000 members, while others flocked to an Instagram fan account to discuss whether products could be ordered online. (For the most part, as of Tuesday afternoon, they reportedly could, though it was unclear whether products would be delivered.)” Read full article here.
The Top Skincare & Beauty Groups – A place for The Ordinary and Deciem addicts (so, all of us?), this group is a safe space for all your Deciem-related questions. I’d recommend putting a question to the members before buying a product—that way you’ll get an honest review from a handful of people. Read full article here.
“The Ordinary Chat Room.” Altogether, they have 31,100 members. It’s also one of the most mentioned brands on Reddit’s popular skin-care subreddit, “Skincare Addiction,” and has its own dedicated subreddit. Read full article here.
